Boat Middle-Grade

A sample middle-grade / chapter book portfolio project from a session with Pathways+ with Steven Lenton. We were set a task to illustrate a text without seeing the original illustrations, and I chose an excerpt from ‘Mr Dog’ by Ben Fogle. Working with just two colours was challenging but really fun!

I did lots of initial sketching during the session to work out what sort of dog to draw and how the seagull and boat should look, as well as different composition ideas. And also played around with doing the artwork as straight black and white.
